Postdoctoral position in electrochemistry/electrophysiology/ electronics

The Project

The Biocatalysis and Biosensor Group (www.ludwiglab.eu) at BOKU – University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria (www.boku.at.ac) studies fungal oxidoreductases and their application in biocatalysis and biosensing. The OXIDISE project team consisting of the PI, two postdoctoral researchers and four PHDs will investigate the secretomes of model fungi, identify their major redox enzymes and their interaction. The successful applicant for this position will develop microelectrodes to detect substrates and products of fungal oxidoreductases as well as lignocellulolytic activities. He/she will also lead the development and installation of a scanning electrochemical microscope (SECM) coupled to a fluorescence microscope to measure the distribution and interaction of enzymes on solid substrates. A project description can be found at: www.ludwiglab.eu/oxidise

The Candidate

A solid scientific background in electrochemistry is requested and research experience in microelectrodes, low current measurements and SECM. Additional skills in programming, electronics, fluorescence microscopy, electrophysiology or analytical chemistry are a bonus. You need a broad scientific background and high intellectual flexibility to work with team members  from  different  scientific  backgrounds  and  the  willingness  to  visit  international project collaborators. To make this interdisciplinary project successful, I am looking for a postdoc who is curious, has excellent experimental and writing skills and enjoys working in a team. You should be an independent scientist and a creative mind who wants to develop his/her own research area at the frontier of science.

Funding and Starting  Date

The  postdoctoral  position  is  funded  for  3  years  by  an  ERC  Consolidator  Grant.  The successful candidate will be hired by BOKU on basis of the regular Austrian universities postdoctoral contract (B1, lit. b) with an attractive monthly gross salary of 3626,60 €. The contract includes Austrian social security and health insurance. The position is available from May, 1, 2017 and is to be filled as soon as possible.
